Free Cluster for the Public

A group of artists and people who like free software and modern technology realized a project to celebrate 150 years of birth of  Nikola Tesla, a great inventor.
Science and arts enthusiasts built a cluster based on Flashmob GNU/Linux cluster in downtown Belgrade and performed theatrical, musical and light installation artworks celebrating Nikola Tesla.  The cluster software and scientific free software were made available free of charge to thousands of visitors of the cluster project presentation.  The citizens from July 05-10, 2006 saw presentations of various free software that may be used in medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, math and related disciplines.  Visitors who are interested in studying such disciplines are informed about open access repositories of scientific information.  Authors of the project are Gordana Lebovic and Vedran Vucic.  Vedran Vucic and Aleksandar Bakic were responsible for free software and computer related part of the project.

We are grateful to Patrick Miller from the University of San Francisco and Steve Jones from the University of Illinois at Chicago for helping us in this project. The project was managed and produced by the Belgrade Summer Festival (BELEF).

Audio GNU/Linux

We wrote an overview of audio applications for GNU/Linux that may serve various civil society advocacy groups, radio stations, scientists and artists to record, edit and broadcast audio material.  Freedom brings more freedom by learning to use it.  An overview is aimed to  developers, end-users, grant-giving  organisations and other organisations that consider to use, support and develop free software audio projects.  Special thanks to Stephanie Hankey from the Tactical Technology Collective on editing and encouragement. Review is here.

We have received nice surprise from the company Genesi.  They will donate us one their Open Desktop Workstation as a sign of gratitude because we mentioned them as a good example of business development from the developers community effort in an article. written for the Telfor.   We are glad that Genesi share our view that countries and local governments should be free to use free software according to their needs.  Due to the nature of development of Genesi products they are more reliable yet affordable for various users worldwide.   Thanks a lot!!!

Check out Genesi and support them by contributing their work and spreading use of their products.
